Hope you all had a happy Valentine's Day and enjoyed the holiday that celebrates l'amour! My brother is a Valentine's Day baby, and his colleagues at Sony Music Studios gave him a Surprise 40th Birthday bash. The soiree in his honor took place in one of their many studios on 54th Street. My brother is the Director of Creative Development. It was nice to see him honored and feted by such a fascinating group of talented people. Sony Music Studios is an extremely electrifying place. At any given moment one could find Tony Bennett in a session room or Janet Jackson coming out of the ladies room!
Of course, security is very, very tight. They even actually frisked and searched my grandmother who seemed to thoroughly enjoy it! I was speaking with Jodi Horowitz, the Executive Producer for the show Live By Request, which is shot on a sound stage that was actually built above the swimming pool that Esther Williams used in all those movies. There's a lot of history there and it certainly is an exciting place to be.
***I cannot at all fathom how the airlines can get away with charging pricey fares and not being at all forced to have Sky Marshals on board each flight. The flying public pays these fares (you'd actually never know that the industry is at all hurting by the fares they charge) and then they expect the flying public to act as "bouncer" and Martial Arts pro! Until they start placing Sky Marshals on each flight, passengers will continue to be forced into potentially precarious and dangerous situations.
***Mayor Bloomberg has confirmed our invitation to march in the parade!
Between all the FDNY and NYPD brass, our 24 honorees representing the FDNY, NYPD, and EMS, our two Grand Marshals, eleven Deputy Grand Marshals, dignitaries, and media that are expected to attend our big day on Saturday March 2, our 27th annual parade is anticipated to be the biggest and grandest one yet.
The day's festivities will begin with a 9 a.m. Mass given by Bishop Daly at Saint Frances de Sales Church. The Mass for Peace and Justice in Ireland is open to the public. Renowned Irish Entertainers Patrick Lynch, Andrew Wise, and Kathy Viscardi will perform, along with Sister Mary Beatta, at the Mass. There will then be an invitation only breakfast for dignitaries and honorees in the Ocean Room at The Beach Club where Rosemary Sullivan will make the dedication of our new name in honor of her son, and Parade Founder, James Conway Sullivan. The parade itself will step off at 1p.m. from Newport Avenue and Beach 129 Street and will end at Saint Rose of Lima Church on Beach 84 Street where the public is invited to our Awards Reception. At this time trophies will be given out to the best bands and marching organizations. The winner of our $100 Club 50/50 Raffle will also be announced at this time. So, get ready Rockaway! This will be a great day for the Irish!
***If you are planning to take the bus to Antun's this Saturday night, then you can be picked up at Jameson's Pub on Beach 129 Street at 6 p.m., The Beach Club at 6:15 p.m., the Kerry Hills and Palm Garden at 6:30, and The Irish Circle at 6:45 p.m. Tickets are $10. See Mary Alice Lane at the Palm Garden.
***The Antun's Gala is always a wonderful affair. I hope to see you there!
