Smith Announces Funds for Transporting
Seniors, Disabled

Noting that "the State Department of Transportation is standing ready to help groups providing transportation services to seniors and the disabled," State Senator Ada L. Smith (D/L- Brooklyn/Queens) today announced that the Department is offering grants to fund these worthwhile endeavors.

Organizations requesting a Fiscal Year 2003 grant must apply by February 28, 2002.

"For more than a quarter of a century, the Federal transit Administration has made more than $1 billion in funds available to these organizations. The state department of Transportation administers the grants in New York," Senator Smith said.

Organizations eligible to apply include: private non-profit corporations, public bodies that are Sate-approved coordinators, and public bodies that certify the local of local corporations or associations ready available to provide these transit services.

"These organizations have been immeasurable help to seniors and the disabled, helping them to move throughout their communities more easily," Senator Smith said.
