RAA’s Open Call to Artists
The Rockaway Artists Alliance (RAA) is presenting a juried exhibition of visual & literary work entitled Palindrome 2002 from March 16 through April 14.
A palindrome is a word, verse, or sentence that reads the same backward or forward. All submitted works must pertain to one or more of the following: palindromes, reflections (including self-reflection), mirrors, mirror images, and/or doubles.
The exhibition takes place in partnership with Gateway National Recreation Area (GNRA) at the sTudio Gallery, Rockaway Arts Center in Fort Tilden, Rockaway.
Visual artists may submit paintings, limited edition prints, sculpture, mixed media, photography, fine arts, ceramics and jewelry. Literary artists may submit poetry or prose with a limit of 500 words. The deadline for submission of work is February 21, 2002. The literary juror will be Alice Rosenblitt, professor in the new Arts Administration Certificate Program at LaGuardia Community College.
Visual artists should submit for approval three photographs and/or slides (in slide sheet) of work to be juried, being sure to label each with artist’s name, medium, title, dimensions and price. Literary artists need to submit two printed copies of the submitted works. In addition you should submit the work on one of the following: a data disk, CD using Microsoft Word, or email to RockArt116@aol.com.
Both visual and literary artists need to send an artist statement and a resume with address, phone # and e-mail address. All mailings should include SASE and be addressed to Rockaway Artists Alliance, Palindrome, 260 Beach 116 Street, Rockaway Park, NY 11694.
Notification of acceptance will be on February 27. Accepted works require a hanging fee of $20 for RAA members, $25 for non-members, and a 10% donation to RAA on sales. Visual works accepted are to be dropped off March 8, 6-9 p.m. and on March 10, 1-3 p.m. Exhibition ends on April 14, when works are to be picked up between 2-4 p.m.
The opening reception will feature selected readings from accepted works.
