The Broad Channel Athletic Club Jamaica Bay Little League has announced their registration dates for the upcoming 2002 little league season. The league will register children between the ages of 5 and 16 on each and every Saturday in the month of February.

Registration will take place at Memorial Field located on 1st Road and Cross Bay Boulevard between the hours of 9:30 am and 12 p.m. The registration fee will be $85.00 for the first child, $45.00 for the second child and $20.00 for the third child (all in same family). T-Ball will be $25.00. The league accepts checks (post dated) and money orders only. The registration fee includes a full uniform (jersey, pants, hat and socks), insurance and a trophy presented to each player at family day.

The Jamaica Bay Little League will be entering its third season of action and hopefully will be another season of fun baseball and softball for the children. The league strives to keep the registration fee as low as possible and will continue to implement new additions to the league each season.

This year the league will improve the playing fields at Memorial Field. We will be renovating the existing field with a brand new infield. A brand new ball field will be installed at the south end of Memorial Field to be used solely by the younger divisions. This new field will be complete with dugouts and bleachers for the fans. The addition of the new baseball/softball diamond will enable the league to re-adjust the playing times for the league and replace most of the games that had a 7:30 p.m. start in the two previous seasons. The league will still have some 7:30 p.m. starts under the lights for the older divisions and a few games for the younger divisions.

The 2002 season will kick off with the Little League parade on Saturday, April 27th at 10:00 a.m. This season, the little league parade will honor all our Hometown Heroes that have been such a great inspiration to us all. The league will recognize all of our home town heroes on this day and invite one and all to pay tribute to all the men and woman who gave their all in the tragedy on and after September 11.

We have many home town heroes locally and we would like to hear from anyone who knows of someone who is a home town hero i.e.: firefighters, police officers, emergency medical workers or anyone else who contributed to the rescue of the victims. If you know of anyone who you would like to be honored we want to know about him or her. You can contact the Athletic Club at our website at www.broadchannelac.org or our email address at bcacwebsite@aol.com. Please forward their name, address and telephone number so the league can formally invite them to be honored at the parade of " Home Town Heroes"

The league looks forward to another successful season and hope that each and every child that is interested in being part of the Jamaica Bay Little League family registers during the month of February. Late registration puts a burden on the successfulness of a league and there really is no reason to not register on time. The Jamaica Bay Little League is all about the children and we strive to give our local children the best possible sports recreation time that we possible can. If you would like to be involved with the children, please let us know and we will gladly have you as part of the Jamaica Bay Little League family. See ya on the field.
