Pitching in for the Heroes

Pitching in for the Heroes

Dear Editor;

On the day of the plane crash, I went to Waldbaum's with the intention of purchasing enough hero sandwiches to feed 200 rescue workers.

Led by Store Manager George Fox, and his staff, bookkeepers Bee Kratornkland and Alan Jaffe, and Deli Manager Jeff Perskin, the order was completed. The work took an hour and a half and used most of the food and loaves of hero bread in the delicatessen department.

During this time, I met Police Officer Andy Ortiz of the 88th, who was shopping at Waldbaum's for supplies for his detail. He agreed to transport the sandwiches in his van to Belle Harbor.

Reaching the checkout counter, I was informed by George Fox that the food was " compliments of Waldbaums for the rescue workers."

This letter is being written to give credit to the fine people at Waldbaums and Police Officer Ortiz for noble gestures. Thank you.

A BELLE HARBOR NEIGHBOR
