Sanders to Chair Major Committee

Sanders to Chair Major Committee

The very first African-American to chair the Economic Development Committee in the City Council's existence was just voted in. James Sanders Jr., of the 31st Council District, was unanimously chosen for the post based on experience leading People United for Local Leadership, a micro-economic development corporation, and his work with Congressman Flake. He was Assistant District Manager, and Congressman Flake is regarded as a leader in developing affordable senior housing.

The Committee, the third most powerful in the city, has the responsibility of preserving New York's tax base and stimulating business development. He will also serve on the Transportation, Consumer Affairs, Fire and Criminal Justices, and the Women's Services Committee.

" I am grateful to the people of the 31st Council District for giving me the opportunity to serve. I will not fail them" Sanders said.
