Just returned from the Hudson theatre where a press conference was to be held for Mike Tyson and Lennox Lewis to announce the upcoming fight between these two boxing champions on April 6 at MGM Grand in Las Vegas. When Mike Tyson came on stage to meet and shake hands with Lennox Lewis, instead of being cordial, he actually leaped at Lewis and started punching him right on stage, so much commotion that the banner was almost ripped down and it took all those on stage and the police to finally subdue Tyson. As far as I could determine the fight has now been called off and it has been suggested Mike Tyson go for a CAT scan to make sure he has no head injuries.

The press conference ended before it started, and we were all sent back to our offices. I guess Tyson couldn't wait till April to fight Lewis. From what I understand Tyson's anger built up because he was supposed to fight Lewis three years ago when he was younger, but the fight was delayed until this new date. Who knows whether he will ever fight Lewis again. That remains to be seen. I will keep you posted.

There is so much controversy over the WTC picture that is planned to be turned into a monument, that it has now been placed on hold. To change the three white Firemen to Black, Spanish and White faces is to change history. Not only that, but it would not be ethnically correct. There are many more ethnic Firemen than Black, White and Spanish. Are we to leave out the Scandinavians, Chinese, Japanese, Indians (Native and Eastern), Russians, Arabs and Muslims and many others I can't think of at the moment? If we change this picture we will have to change it to represent ALL the ethnic firemen we have in our city. LEAVE THE MONUMENT OF THE PICTURE AS IT IS! If you change it to only Black, Spanish and White you discriminate against the others. What they can do is to add the ethnic representation of each fireman who represent the ethnic background of each and everyone to surround the men in the original picture. This is my opinion. I would like to hear the views of my readers on this issue. Please contact me or send a letter to The WAVE.

Another e-mail from Shirley states she does not have a new beau as yet, but will be back from her Florida Condo and on the scene again at the B.P.S.C. this coming season. Helene and Peter Danzilo flew off to their winter home in Las Vegas. They left just in time to miss our snowfall. When the birds and the butterflies come back to us so will they. Happy, healthy winter vacation.

Remember that advertising question, "Where's the Beef"? Well, you should have been to the Steak Out at

Etoile Restaurant in the Lombardy Hotel at 56th and Park Avenue the other night. This was an SOS (Share Our Strength) fundraiser. For only $50 you were offered Complimentary VOX vodka any way you like it, wine while you savored the delicious tasting of six "Beef" food stations prepared by New York's finest Chefs. The Master Chef of Etoile Restaurant,, Timothy Egan. orchestrated the beef culinary evening with some of the best award winning chefs from New York's finest restaurants. The steaks, Chateau Brion, Filet Mignon and all others were excellently prepared. Plenty of beef, but nothing to "beef" about. If you wish to attend other functions held throughout the year, give SOS a call.

The International Gift Show is presently at the Javit's Center and the Shipping Piers and I found oodles of new products on the market The gift show is one of the largest shows of the year and it seems to get even larger each year. At the Berkley Designs exhibit I heard the sounds of a monkeys that can hang from a tree, if you have one, or a nail on the wall. They squeal like a monkey and are colorful, noisy and fun "Funky Monkeys". Their sidekick is "Funky Frog that grovels the sound of a frog. I just loved them and I know you will, too.

They can only be found in specialty gift shops and sell for a mere $10. "Gift of Love" on 116th St. Are you reading this? Go and get some. They will sell like hot cakes. The Berkley Design Company is in Los Angeles. At Fantasia they have plastic strawberry Sundae glasses that also serve as a bank. At Two's Company I found adorable note pads that look like children's handbags, a painted hand for rings and a colorful figure with aluminum arms to hold necklaces and bracelets. Some of these will be seen on my television segments on WBYX-TV.

At the opening of the brand new LURE Restaurant at 33 East 60 St. I met two charming gentlemen: William Clemente, Managing Director for Bear Stearns Brokerage House, who lives with his family in Broad Channel and reads The WAVE every week. He was accompanied by his friend, Richard Kahn, President of Kahn Securities, Inc. who resides in Woodmere with his family. His office is in Rockville Center. Both men are good friends with owner of LURE, Richard Harriton. This is not his first restaurant.. He also owns a restaurant in Bridgehampton, Long Island called LURE, and is doing very well with it according to his friends. William Clemente and Richard Kahn. LURE in Manhattan is an upscale fish restaurant that is bright and airy with a small cocktail space in front of a long bar at the entrance. On the right, two steps down is a dining area. This particular evening the space was filled with standees and dancers to the DJ music. At the end of the entrance bar is a staircase to bring you to the second floor dining area where another bar is there to service you and beyond that a small intimate room for VIPs or special small groups. On the left side of the stairs is another nice size room for more quiet dining and small parties. The food was luscious and plentiful. Displayed on a buffet table were huge shrimp, oysters, clams, mussels and delicious sushi. Hot chicken, beef crab cakes and other delicacies were served around the rooms. From what I could see Richard Harriton is well on his way to another successful restaurant. Give it a try when you are in NYC.

The American Museum of Folk Art held a Fest at the Metropolitan Pavilion and I was delighted with what I found….You can find it , too in Brooklyn on Washington Street at Clifford Wallach Folk Art and Americana .He is pictured here with me in front of some of his unique antique pieces. If you are into American Folk Art memorabilia this was a show for you. In fact, they just opened a new museum in New York City.
