Bertha Cox, 58, born in Bennettsville, South Carolina, was a resident of Rockaway for 19 years. She died on January 10, 2002.
She is survived by her sons; Tim and Tony; and many other relatives.
Interment under the direction of Jeremiah C. Gaffney Funeral Home, Inc. was held at Evergreen Crematory.
Elizabeth Doyle, of Cedars Grove, NJ, lived in Rockaway for 43 years. Coming from Colongouna Co. Roscommon. She died on January 14, 2002.
Elizabeth worshipped at St. Francis de Sales Church, and was a member of the Senior Groups in St. Francis De Sales, St. Rose of Lima, and St. Camillus.
She is survived by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grand- nephews in both the US and Ireland.
Visitation will be at Denis S. O'Connor Funeral Home on January 18, from 3-5 p.m. and 7-9 p.m.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. will be held at Gate of Heaven Cemetery on January 19.
Ernestine Furrows, 48, was a resident of Rockaway for 35 years. She passed away on January 11, 2002.
She is survived by her son, Dwayne Furrows, and a host of other friends and relatives.
Services will be held Saturday January 19, at Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Chapel.

Jane Gdula, born in New York City, New York, was a lifelong resident of Arverne. She passed away on January 11, 2002.
Jane worshipped at St. Rose of Lima and spent most of her life as a homemaker.
She is survived by her three daughters, Diane Smiley Bertha McDonald, and Debbie Nerys; four sisters, Helen Baily, Bertha Hale, Catherine Hendrickson, and Lucille Ward; her brother, Joseph Ponczkowski; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc. was held at Maple Grove Cemetery.
Robert Grable, a member of the Rockaway community for over 50 years, died on January 11, 2002.
Robert grew up in the Rockaways, and was the husband of Bertha Grable, father of John, Gwendolyn and Robert Jr., and a grandfather of three. The Grables relocated to Lithonia, GA in the year 2000.
While residing in the Rockaway's, Grable was a member of the Macedonia Baptist Church. He served in the Praying Band, the Kitchen Committee, and both the Gospel Chorus and the Male Chorus. He was an active member of the Arverne Civic association, from its foundation to his relocation.
Grable was an outspoken advocate for school improvement, and organized the community to demand a better response time from the local EMS. He was also involved in the campaign to get mosquito magnets in the badly infested Arverne area.
A memorial service will be held at Macedonia Baptist Church on Sunday, January 20th at 5 p.m.
John Gradiska, a lifelong resident of Rockaway Beach, passed away January 6, 2002.
John was a World War II veteran in the Navy. He was a retired security guard employed by Peninsula Hospital.
John is preceded in death by his grandson, Patrick Brian Kogut.
He is survived by his wife Susan, (nee King) Gradiska; his sons, John Corbett, John and James Gradiska; his daughters, Valerie Kogut, Diane Powers and Priscilla Romano; and 12 grandchildren.
Interment under the direction of Denis S. O'Connor, Inc., was held at Calverton National Cemetery.
Mary F. Neville
Loved By Many
Mary F. Neville, a longtime resident of the Rockaways, passed away on January 6, 2002.
She was a member in long standing of the American Order of Hibernians; and a member of St. Camillus Church and the St. Francis Leisure Time Club.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Bridget Neville; and her brother, James Neville.
She is survived by her sisters, Aileen Shulte, Catherine Monahan and Alice Walsh; her cousin, Kate Dore; and numerous nieces, nephews grandnieces and grandnephews.
Interment was held at Calvary Cemetery.
Pablo Nieves, 50, native of Puerto Rico, passed away on January 16, 2002.
He was a resident of the Rockaways for 18 years and worked as a landscaper.
He is survived by his mother, Justina Nieves; his brother, Esteban; and a host of other relatives and friends.

William Oden, 77, a resident of Rockaway for 40 years, died on January 9, 2002.
William served proudly in the United States Army.
He is survived by his daughter, Carol Samuels; his brother, Ben; his sister, Willie Bell Patrick; and his nephew, Sylvester Cherry.

Kevin Andre Paupaw
Kevin Andre Paupaw, 38, born in Brooklyn, NY, was a 23-year resident of Far Rockaway. He died on Jan 14, 2002.
He is survived by his son, Andre; his parents, Kenneth and Carolyn; his brother, Guy; and his sister, Kimberly.
A service will be held at Jeremiah C. Gaffney's Funeral Home Chapel on January 18.

Maurice F. Wade III
Maurice F. Wade III, a 34-year resident of Rockaway Point, coming from Brooklyn, New York, passed away on January 10, 2002.
Maurice worshipped at St. Thomas More Church, and worked as a security guard at the Breezy Point Surf Club.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Patricia Wade.
He is survived by his father, Maurice F. Wade, Sr.; and a sister, Patricia Schofield.
