Christmas Eve Fire Displaces Family

Christmas Eve Fire Displaces Family

A raging fire that destroyed the top floor of a house at 140 Beach 91st Street late on Monday afternoon has displaced the Martinez family for Christmas, according to a report by Lieutenant Murtaugh of the FDNY's Battalion 47. While nobody was injured, the family, consisting of Mrs. Martinez and two children, a boy 8 and a girl 6, has been housed by the Red Cross since the fire. According to eyewitnesses to the fire, the young boy, who is autistic and cannot speak, came downstairs and said "hot," to his mother. When she checked, she found the fire raging on the second floor of the two-story home. Witnesses say that two local men, Adam Tattoo and Dan Monasterski, helped to pull the children from the house prior to the arrival of the fire department.
