A Place For Those Less Fortunate

A Place For Those Less Fortunate

With all the new houses and apartments being constructed along the peninsula, many residents from the poorer sections have expressed concerns to The Wave that there will be no place for them during the "Rockaway Renaissance." With new policies being put into place to deal with the issue of public housing, poor communities are in fear of being pushed out of the Rockaways in an attempt to create a "safer and economically viable" community. While crime and safety are issues in any community, we must be careful that certain groups are not excluded as the rebirth takes place. We must strive to make sure that all the residents of the Rockaway community have a place to call home, and the reconstruction should not come at the expense of people who cannot afford to put down $25,000 for a home or up to $5,000 for an apartment. Rich or poor, we are all one community.
