Water Route Protest

Water Route Protest

Dear Editor;

The demonstration to protest the planes flying over our community was held, Sunday, December 2, at JFK Airport. My daughter and I would like to extend a warm thanks to all that attended. Although our group was not as large as we would have wished, those who participated were terrific and sincere. It was a chilly damp day to stand outdoors for two hours. The children of families protesting made their own wonderful signs and joined enthusiastically in chanting slogans demanding, "Stop flying over our homes now!"

A special thanks to Lew Simon even without his bullhorn, his loud voice lead most of our chants. We all know Lew id an experienced protestor. I know Lew had a sore throat the next day.

Reporters floated through the crowd, interviewing and taking pictures. Thank you to Howie Schwach for being with us, and also for printing in last weeksa Wave the information on the rally. A representative of Congressman Anthony Weiner also joined us. Newly elected councilmen Josseph Addabbo Jr. personally called me to wish us luck and offer help in the future. He distributed our flyers in his area. Joann Ariola, Republican District Leader, also helped by posting flyers. The print shop on Beach 116 Street donated the printing of 2,000 flyers.

Many important events were being held Sunday. Next time we will be more experienced to plan our dates carefully. I refer ti next time because we have no intention of giving up. It will take more than one demonstration to attain our goal.

Our future plans are to form an organization. We have many capable, intelligent and talented people within our community. We will be reaching out to those who joined the protest and others to continue demanding the FAA enforce all Airlines and their pilots "Fly the water path now".

All the protestors at JFK signed a petition. We will be working to get more signatures. Anyone interested in information please call.
