Broad Channel Man Dead in Burning Truck

A Broad Channel man was found dead on Saturday morning inside a burning pickup truck.

The body of John McCarthy, 35, was found at 2 a.m. on Saturday when firefighters responded to a neighbor’s call of a truck on fire at West and Noel Roads, nearby the subway station.

After putting out the fire in the red 1986 pickup truck, they found the McCarthy’s body in the driver’s seat.

Police officials declined to comment on whether McCarty was the victim of a crime or if his death was accidental.

Police sources say that the body has been turned over to the medical examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

At press time, a spokesperson for the medical examiner’s office said that the autopsy was not yet complete and that there would be no comment until it is completed.
