The ‘Little North Pole’ Lights Up Dec. 16

The ‘Little North Pole’ Lights Up Dec. 16

The Beach 145 Street home that draws the attention of the entire community each Christmas season will once again turn on its hundreds of lights and entertain the community on Sunday, December 16 at 6 p.m. The home, owned by the Mure family, is at 327 Beach 145 Street in Neponsit.

"During this holiday season, the residents of the Rockaway’s, although resilient in spirit, carry heavy hearts," says Joseph Mure, Jr. "However, the children still need Christmas to brighten their lives."

According to Mure, there will be a special appearance by Santa Claus, many other favorite characters and free food, drink and toys for all.

While donations have been collected tin the past for such charities as the Juvenile Diabetes Foundation, this year the Mure’s are asking for donations to the Rockaway Children’s Fund.

"We have raised thousands of dollars for the foundation with the help of Rockaway people," Mure says. "This year, I want to give something back to the community that I love so much."

The Rockaway Children’s Fund has been established to meet the needs of the children and families who were affected by the World Trade Center attack and by the crash of Flight 587 in Rockaway.

"Any donation you can give to make this project a success will be greatly appreciated," Mure adds. "This event is being held solely to secure the future of Rockaway’s children, while bringing the community together for some much-needed cheer.
