Meet The Irish

By Harry McGuirk

Portugal was neutral in the Second World War. In the First World War, 1914 to 1918, the young men of Portugal along with the allied forces were perishing in the trenches against the German forces of the Kaiser.

In 1917 as the American forces joined the war against Germany, strange and historic happenings took place in Portugal. The apparitions of Our Blessed Lady to three children took place. Our Lady foretold of happenings in the world up to and beyond the present time. She said in one visit that she would stay the hand of her divine son against a terrible punishment against the simple world. The punishment would be worse than the time of Noah and the great flood. Mary told the children that God was angry at the world and the end of the world would come unless the people turned to God and prayer to the Immaculate Heart of Mary. Some of her promises have been fulfilled like the conversion of Russia from communism. There were three secret messages to be passed on to the Pope in the Vatican. It was said that Pope John twenty third opened the final letter and when he read its contents he promptly collapsed in a faint. That was the time of the brink of nuclear war because of the Cuban crisis.

Irish television recently presented a story of an Australian seaman who became a priest after he was discharged from the Navy. After a time he returned to civilian life. He was obsessed about the third secret of Our Lady of Fatima with the result he hijacked an Aer Lingus plane carrying over a hundred passengers and demanded to be taken to Paris. He also demanded that the Pope open the secret letter of Fatima and tell the world. The Pope refused. The Pope being shot had been predicted. Prayers of the faithful saved his life it was said.

The first apparition of Fatima took place at noon on May 13, 1917. Lucia age ten, Jacinta age eight and Francisco age seven were tending their sheep eighty miles from Lisbon. French para-troopers captured the ex Trappist Monk, Laurence Downey. He served five years for his crime in a French prison.

The children were very much punished. They were called liars by the authorities. They were threatened with jail and all sorts of things unless they confessed that they made up the story. The communist government at that time did not spare the children and their family humiliation as fraud. The children pleaded with Our Lady to give the people a sign that they were telling the truth. And she did.

As proof of the vision of the Blessed Lady she pointed to the sun, the sun began to dance in the sky—and sometimes falling towards the earth in tremendous speed as if the sun would crush and look like earth would end – Our Lady was showing her great power – it was suggested that the time one day that is how the end would come.

Margie McGuirk (Ms. Brennan) was in charge of Christian Direction, especially at the changes in the time of Pope John at Holy Cross. At Holy Cross in Brooklyn everyone seemed to follow the new instruction without hassle, due to Mrs. McGuirk’s effort along with that of the Clergy. Thank God. My wife attended all kinds of meetings and religious instruction to share herself with the Catholic flock through the schools and church. This above story of Fatima was shared with the children at Holy Cross. Margie was friendly with Cardinals and their impact with our marriage was great; even a blessing from the Pope for our honeymoon Margie got two tickets for Lourdes. She always wanted to go to Lourdes. We loved it. Thank God. I told the gathering at St. James Dublin for her Funeral as well as the church where we were married of her great work, especially with poor children like Fr. McDerry and Jesuits order – in Dublin. God bless you Margie – I’ll always love you.

God Bless you Bill. You were her knight in shining armor. Please pray for her, she’d like that.
