Honoring Those Who Cared

Honoring Those Who Cared

Dear Editor;

As Thanksgiving nears I would like to offer my deepest thanks to a special group of individuals: Liz Sulik, Joann Greenberg, Tom Tobin, Harold Rochelle, Sandee and Jate Doremus, Nancy Woods and all our other civic leaders for their tireless hours spent on bettering our neighborhood.

For all our friends and neighbors who rose to the occasion during a terrible tragedy.

To all the Police officers and firefighters from Rockaway, both on and off duty who once again showed strength and valor.

My cousin, Tom Duffy of Ladder 50, who raced down from Brewster N.Y. to offer his assistance in our time of need. My brother Richie, for his heart the size of Texas. To all the business owners for their assistance, especially Bernie Heeran, Eric McManus, Steve and Kenny Good.

To our friends from Broad Channel, Roxbury, Breezy and Rockaway Point who raced to our side and offered their aid.

My wife, and children who are there for me 24/7. Kevin Boyle, for always hitting the nail on the head. John Clifford, we know what we did and I'll work with you anywhere, anytime, friend!  Bobby O'Hara, for staying on that hose line with me even though it got a little hairy.

Monsignor Geraghty, for your continued spiritual guidance and leadership, you are truly a treasure. Joe Addabbo, my faith is in you and I know you won't let Rockaway down.

Lastly, to all our elected officials who lately have been patting us (emergency workers) on the back and telling us how wonderful we all are. Well, talk is cheap, and actions speak louder than words. To all, a Happy Thanksgiving.

PALMER DOYLE
