Bridging The Generation Gap

Bridging The Generation Gap

Dear Editor;

There is a hero on my block. His name is Michael Stone.  I've known Michael from the time he was a baby. He's now twenty-three years old, an EMT for the past two years and a hero in my eyes.

When the plane crashed that frightening day, I saw him at the site helping to stretch a line to the rear of a fully involved home. He was joined by our old war horse Flip Mullen and others whose names I don't know. The young excited one following the older calmer one.

They may not know each other but that day they joined together in a common purpose. Only the next morning did I learn that Michael had stayed for over twelve hours to help in the recovering of the bodies and help in the identification. They are true heroes from the past and the future of the NYC Fire Department.
