KeySpan Brings ‘Glimmer of Joy’
To Holiday Season

Thanks to a $20 thousand donation by KeySpan Energy, Rockaway will be lit for the holidays this year. The donation will allow the entire Rockaway peninsula to "shine bright this season," according to a statement by Bob Catell, the company’s CEO.
"After losing nearly a hundred people from the World Trade Center disaster and the November 12 crash of Flight 587, the Rockaway community continues its fight to recover from the emotional and physical effects of the tragedies," Catell says. "As residents and business pull together to rebuild and recover from these catastrophic events, KeySpan is pitching in to help the community maintain one of its most beloved traditions."
The Annual Holiday Lighting Program, which is coordinated by the Rockaway Chamber of Commerce, accepted the money from KeySpan.
"In view of the tragedies of September 11 and November 12, without KeySpan’s help, our community would not have been able to sponsor lighting this holiday season," said Chamber of Commerce president Liz Sulik. "The children in our community have been through so much, we want to focus on them and to bring them a few smiles and a little joy during this most difficult time."
"We are pleased to bring a glimmer of joy in the midst of such darkness," Catell added. "We realize the impact the events of the last few months have had on so many of our friends, family and neighbors and we are happy that we can lift community spirits in any way we can."
The money will be utilized for lighting from Far Rockaway to Breezy Point.
