By Howard Schwach
Detectives of the 100 Precinct Squad in Rockaway Beach are looking for 19 year-old Lindy Jones, also known as "Jones" or "Killer," in connection with the shooting of a Hispanic teen, Dennis Rivera, 18, on the Boardwalk at Beach 111 Street last Monday night.
Rivera was shot twice, in what police officials are terming a "fight" between the two youths.
According to police sources, Jones, who lives at 10-11 Nameoke Street in Far Rockaway, approached Rivera, who was sitting on a bench on the boardwalk, and a fight ensued.
Jones allegedly then pulled a handgun and fire three shots at Rivera.
Rivera was shot once in the leg and once in the chest. According to police sources, Rivera was taken to Jamaica Hospital in "serious condition," but a spokesperson for the hospital later told The Wave that his condition had been upgraded to "stable."
The search for the shooter included a mobilization call by police officials that brought more than two-dozen police officers from the Queens South Task Force to the scene. In addition, police helicopters from Floyd Bennett Field joined in the search.
Jones is described by police as a Black Male, 5’ 7" tall, with black hair and brown eyes. He weighs approximately 160 pounds. While he lives in Far Rockaway, Jones is known to frequent both the Edgemere and Arverne Houses.
Police say that Jones should be considered armed and dangerous. Anybody seeing Jones should contact Detective Verna of the 100 Precinct Detective Squad at 318-4224 or at the 24-hour Queens number at 520-9200.
