The Pain Still Lingers

The Pain Still Lingers

Dear Editor;

This is going to be a very hard letter to write. How does one write about what happened yesterday in the community where you were raised and lived for many years?

I lived on Beach 135 Street, just four blocks from P.S. 114. Although I now live in Florida, I have always considered Belle Harbor my home. I remember all the good times of growing up there, going to school and of course being active in my community. I am sure that many people that originally came from that area and now live in Florida could not believe what happened to their community yesterday.

How does one thank all the firemen, policemen and rescue workers for all their help yesterday?

How many times did I walk down to 116 Street and stop at Beach 129 Street to either go shopping or visit with friends? I was very active in many fund raising activities in Belle Harbor and I certainly wish that I could do something here to help people in my favorite community.

My deepest sympathy goes to the families that were on that American Airlines flight and also to the people that were lost on the ground in Belle Harbor.
