A Long Struggle

A Long Struggle

Dear Editor;

It seems every time Israel takes assertive steps to stop terrorism, they are asked to cool it. After the assassination of a cabinet minister, they invaded five Palestinian towns to root out the assassins and murderers. Colin Powell asked them to leave and not retaliate. When he was asked by a congressman – aren’t they doing exactly what the U.S. is doing in Afghanistan, he replied with some nonsense. Every time the Israelis come near victory, they are asked to desist.

Their presence in Lebanon was repudiated. They were asked to culminate the Six Day War. During the Persian Gulf War, Bush asked them not to retaliate, while they were being bombed with missiles. And now they are being asked not to rebuff the Palestinian terrorists. You cannot appease the Saudis, the Syrians and the Palestinians.

Here in America, there seems to be a growing minority who wish to stop the war in Afghanistan. Shamefully, among these, is Senator Joseph Biden. President Bush has reiterated that this will be a long struggle.

I say to these bleeding hearts – let them go down to ground zero, and witness, first hand, the macabre and dreadful devastation that was thrust upon us.

Should we become acquiescent to these murdering terrorists – who took over five thousand innocent lives?
