St. John’s Church Hosts Youth Fundraiser

St. John’s Baptist Church on Beach 74 Street and Rockaway Beach Boulevard will host an art-based fundraiser of benefit the church’s youth activities on Saturday, November 17 at 1 p.m. on the church grounds.

The art for sale at the fundraiser will include African-American, Oriental, Religious Art, landscapes and seascapes, florals and abstracts, according to Carol Dennard, the youth chairperson.

Dennard says that the money will be used to get the youth from various parts of the peninsula involved with each other and to take a number of young people to a youth conference in Texas next June.

Some of the funds will be used as well to fund performances of "Safe Space," a group that attempts to modify inappropriate behavior through the arts.

"It is very important that we get the young people from various parts of Rockaway together so that they can see what they have in common," Dennard says.

The event is under the supervision of Pastor Elder Dr. James D. Williams.

African-American art such as this painting will be on sale at St. John’s Baptist Church on Saturday, November 17. A percentage of the proceeds will go to the church’s youth activities.
