Thank’s Mike

Thank’s Mike

Dear Editor:

Hey Mike!  Thank you and God love you. I know nothing can even come close to compensate you for your family's loss, but your presence at the concert and on the Rush Limbaugh Show was one of the most proud and spiritually uplifting displays of patriotism and unity many of us more than ever.  It is an honor to know fellow Rockaway residents who are true patriots.  Heroes who gave their lives and heroes saving lives and hoisting flags at ground zero.  Real Americans on the radio from Rockaway. Calling it the way they see it, and seeing it the way it is.  The embodiment of the true American spirit focused like a laser beam compels me to say: I
salute you!

The sad part is it takes ungodly acts.  Acts of evil for the general public to take notice the risks taken by the fire, police, military, now sanitation and postal workers.  But to think they can protect all of us all the time is fantasy.  The time has come, we the citizenry must take more responsibility for our own security.  We must do all we can for our real heroes on the front lines, "on the job", as well as, ourselves.  All of us must give no
less regard to the security of our great nation.  Because America's strength lies in its individuals, individual people died.  Mike's resolve is an inspiration to us all.  That is, being an American is: go about your
business, but when duty calls, respond.  So what happened will never happen again. Ever.

With the caliber of those heroes who willingly gave their lives to save
others, I hope we can all find solace in the fact that despite all the
tragedy and loss we, as Americans, always right the wrongs and make good situations out of bad.  Freedom is why.  With a little more citizen
proactivity, we can all rest assured we are in the best of hands.
JAMES E. O’BRIAN
