Notes From The High C’s
By Sharon Gabriel
The Rockaway Chamber of Commerce and the Rockaway Music & Arts Council will be co-sponsoring a free concert on Thursday evening, November 8 at 7:30 p.m. at Beach Channel High School.
Performing here in Rockaway on November 8th is "Tandy", who describe themselves as Americana, country and folk-rock artists. "Tandy" features singer-songwriter Mike Ferrio on vocals, guitar and harmonica; Tom McCrum on drums and vocals, Drew Glackin playing lap steel guitar, mandolin and vocals; Scott Yoder on bass; Sibel Firat on cello and vocals; and Peter Mattei on accordion. They have performed all over the country, opening for many well-known artists, and are now a part of the Carnegie Hall/Citigroup Neighborhood Concert Series.
Arranged through the efforts of Liz Sulik and the Rockaway Chamber of Commerce, this special one hour concert comes to us from Carnegie Hall/Citigroup and their Neighborhood Concert Series. The Concert Series, in its 26th year, presents select artists who represent diverse styles of music, including jazz, popular, classical and folk, and will present over 80 concerts throughout the city this year. All the concerts are free of charge.
In addition to the concert, there will be raffles donated by the Rockaway Music & Arts Council and light refreshments, in the lobby, supplied by Beach Channel High School through the efforts if Steve Gellert and his students. All proceeds from the raffles and the refreshments will go towards the Rockaway Partnership Relief/Memorial Fund set up to help our local families effected by the September 11 disaster.
Why not take a short break from your mid-week schedule and join us at this wonderful concert. We hope you will all come out and support our Rockaway families.
For myself, and I am sure the rest of the RMAC members, I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Rockaway Chamber of Commerce, and Liz Sulik in particular, for the wonderful job they are doing to assist the Rockaway disaster victims and others at this most important time.
Remember, Thursday, November 8, 7:30 p.m. at Beach Channel High School for "Tandy".
