Ghosts of Yesterday

Ghosts of Yesterday

Dear Editor;

Here is the latest diatribe from the "Prince of Demagoguery", Al Sharpton: "We would have come together if Bozo was the mayor." Fernando Ferrer pandered for Sharpton’s endorsement, and he got it. I don’t want to be redundant, but let me reiterate some of Sharpton’s past.

He perpetrated a hoax on this city and state with the Tawana Brawley case. He incited hatred during the Crown Heights riots. He was on the same platform with Khalid Muhammed, who ranted against whites, Jews and Catholics. He referred to the Jewish merchants in Harlem as "interlopers", and he was instrumental in having one of his henchmen start a fire, in which several people were killed.

Do you want Ferrer sitting on Sharpton’s lap, while he pulls the strings? Ferrer is truly the demagogue’s advocate.

While the other two mayoral aspirants agreed to let Giuliani stay on for three more months, Ferrer objected. This isn’t political; it’s expedient. We have recently seen the courage and bravery of the police and fire departments, yet Sharpton and Ferrer have always been critical of the police department.

If you want to return to the days of crime, racism, divisiveness and acrimony, then indeed vote for Ferrer. The ball is in your court!

HARRY GOLDSTEIN
