Pharmacists To The Rescue

Pharmacists To The Rescue

Dear Editor;

The following letter was sent to Frank Giordano, pharmacist from Coney Island, and all other pharmacists in New York State from Craig Burridge, Executive Director of the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York:

We are still reeling from the devastating attack on the World Trade Center. All that could be done for the injured has been done. All that can be done for the missing is continuing. PSSNY has been actively involved in coordinating the delivery of First Aid supplies along with our wholesalers and pharmacies. We wish to thank all of our pharmacies who donated supplies for the search and rescue crews.

We must now turn our thoughts to the victims’ families whose devastation is just beginning. So many brave men and women died while coming to the aid of others. Today, nearly 1,000 children have lost or have a missing parent, who in many cases was the sole supporter of the family. It is time for us to take up the responsibility to help these families who need us more than ever.

On behalf of the Pharmacists Society of the State of New York and the New York City Pharmacists Society, we are asking every pharmacist in New York State to donate $100.00 for the families of the fallen. Please make checks payable to: NYCPS and in the "memo" area of the check please indicate: "NYC Disaster Relief." Mail checks to PSSNY, 210 Washington Ave, Ext., and Albany, New York. We will record and copy all checks and forward to our NYC Affiliate to present to the mayor on behalf of all pharmacists. Other PSSNY Affiliates are encouraged to donate. Every penny of these donations will go to these families.

Thanking all of you in advance for your kind and thoughtful consideration of this request. Your prayers and concerns have been heard. We have received so many e-mails from around the nation and the world from our sister pharmacists associations and are grateful. My state counterparts are also raising funds for the victim’s families here in New York and Washington, D.C. I cannot begin to thank everyone for their understanding and support. I am so amazed at the character of this nation to come together so quickly and to respond with such resolve. It puts new meaning into "I’m Proud To Be An American!"

Please help us in distributing this message to others!
