School Zones Need Crossing Guards

School Zones Need Crossing Guards

The fact that another young student was struck by a car in Far Rockaway last week, while in route to school, further illustrates the need to have crossing guards at many busy intersections and throughways along the peninsula. Some raise the argument that it would not serve its purpose if crossing guards were placed at intersections or throughways that are not within close proximity of school zones. It is our firm belief that as long as children are being struck by reckless drivers, and seriously or critically being injured, distance calculation becomes irrelevant. Many parents worry about their children’s safety inside the schools, and they should not have to worry about them dodging cars on the way to school.
