America Is Strong

America Is Strong

Dear Editor;

Answering phones and taking messages, I heard that a plane crashed into the World Trade Center. I thought to myself, "What a terrible accident." It was no accident – a second plane struck the second tower…. I ran to the black and white TV in our lunch area and watched in horror as smoke billowed from both towers, thinking out loud – this cannot be real. I stood still and didn’t move as each tower came down, Oh My God! The towers that were always seen on my way to Queens, New York were gone. The sunsets over Jamaica Bay forever changed. All those people… My heart broke – I had pain in my chest that I only feel when my husband goes to sea. On September 11, 2001 all of America’s hearts broke – we all felt that pain in our chest. That night in our beds welled-up tears flowed freely. America is strong and in time our hearts will mend – our pain will cease and our tears will dry. What will remain is the day that once again America came together. Nothing of this world can break the bonds that we as a Nation hold. We are a country whose spirit will not be broken. We were born free, live free and we will die free. So many already have…
