Brooklyn Cyclones Update by Elio Velez

Brooklyn Cyclones Update by Elio Velez

Due to the horrific incidents of the World Trade Center and Pentagon bombings, the NY Penn League canceled the remainder of the championship series between the Cyclones and the Williamsport Crosscutters. The Penn League has decided to name both the Cyclones and Crosscutters the co-champions of the Single A League.

The Brooklyn Cyclones were leading the best of three championship series 1-0 after a 7-4 win against Williamsport on September 10th. On the next day, the whole world watched in horror as terrorists bombed the World Trade Center on September 11th and the decision was then made to postpone the game. Because of the disaster, it was determined that the rest of the series would be canceled. NY Penn League President Ben Hayes announced the decision. "Due to the emergency situations in the New York Metropolitan area, and out of respect to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in Tuesday's tragic events, we are canceling the remainder of the Championship Series in Brooklyn."

Both teams ended the season as co-champions. The Brooklyn Cyclones announced that there would be refunds for the championship games that would have been played at Keyspan Park. The Cyclones also have announced that a fund has been created to help the victims of the September 11th tragedy. Fans can donate money or other goods at the Keyspan Park box office or ticket holders can donate the money that would have been refunded to them because of the cancellation of the games.
