Putting It In Perspective

Putting It In Perspective

Dear Editor;

We are all witness to the saddest time in the history of our city. There is no man, woman, or child that has not been touched by this senseless act of terrorism.

The eleventh of September was supposed to be an important day in my life, as a council candidate for our district, but at 8:48 that morning, the Primary, the race, the effort…everything changed.

In the past week, in an attempt to reconcile this horrific event, I, like many of you, have reached out to others; attending vigils, offering support, and sharing stories that range from miraculous to devastating.

As we learn that the election has been rescheduled for this Tuesday, September 25, and that the votes cast last week will not count, it seems that at a time as tragic as this, going back to the polling place is unimportant. However, as our President has said, the attack on the World Trade Center was not an attack on our country, it was an attack on democracy.

In the true spirit of America, I hope you exercise your right to vote. By doing so we can demonstrate our strength and unity and move toward the healing of our great city. My thoughts and prayers go out to all.

CHRISTINA JORGE
