A Program That Works

A Program That Works

The following letter was submitted to Commissioner Jerry Cammarata, of the Department of Youth and Community Development.

Dear Editor;

This past summer my daughter, Taylor Powers, attended camp kidsMart AT Fort Tilden in Rockaway. The camp was made possible by the Rockaway Artist Alliance. This was not your typical urban camp. The children were encouraged to express themselves through a variety of mediums, such as acting; singing; drawing; painting gardening; pottery and bookmaking to name a few.

Everyday Taylor looked forward to going to camp to be with her many new friends and the wonderful and talented staff of kidsmART.

At the end of the five weeks, there was a Goodbye Breakfast that families were invited to attend. The work the children had created and their performances were outstanding. I cannot express the pride I felt when my six year old was on stage performing for a large audience.

I urge you to continue your support of the Rockaway Artist Alliance so that they can continue this wonderful camp. On behalf of my daughter and the many other children who had a creative, enjoyable summer experience at Camp kidsmART, I thank you.
