‘And Down The Stretch They Come!’

‘And Down The Stretch They Come!’

With less than a week to go before the Primary, many voters are still undecided on who they will support in the race for the City Council seat in the 31st district. There are seven viable candidates who are chomping at the bit to represent the district that consists of Laurelton, Rosedale, Springfield Gardens, South Ozone Park and Far Rockaway. While Charlotte Jefferson appears to be the favorite, due to the support of the Democratic "machine", James Sanders, Jr. has surged in the standings as result of the endorsement of the Orthodox community, which will turn this into a duel reminiscent of Point Given and Monarchos in the Kentucky Derby. They will go off at 2-1 odds. James Blake, Henrietta Fullard, Edward J. Lewis, and David Hooks, Jr. have an opportunity to play the spoiler, going off at 8-1 odds. An upset could be in the making because each of these candidates has a solid track record of leadership in the public and private sector as well as the community. If you like long-shots, then place your vote on Amanda Clarke. She seems to be the candidate that very few people know anything about, but long-shots have been known to cross the finish line. She’ll go off at 35-1 odds. This will be one of the greatest races in the history of District 31. Your votes will never be as important as they are in this election. The chance to create a new East Rockaway is here. Don’t take that lightly! Do the right thing and get out to vote.
