Heated Over Buses

Heated Over Buses

Dear Editor:

I am writing to you hoping that you can help the riders of the Q35 find out why on the hottest day of the month, August 7, 2001 we had to wait 40 minutes for the Q35 to show up at the Flatbush Avenue Junction. When the bus finally did arrive it had no air conditioning. We were told by the driver to call and complain to the Green Line Bus Company about the buses being without air.

When I called this morning I was connected to a representative for the Q35 who proceeded to tell me that sometimes the bus drivers suffer from heat problems due to the heat wave and may have stopped for 10 minutes to cool off. That 10-minute wait could have caused the delay in the bus arriving to Flatbush Ave. on time.

When I questioned why the bus had no air conditioning he only wanted to know what bus number I was on and would look into it. I then told him that two other buses showed up in the same condition he wanted those bus numbers as well but showed no concern for the passengers.

He proceeded to tell me that we had to be patient because delays can happen along the route such as the construction on the Marine Parkway Bridge, buses breaking down or a driver not showing up which could cause delays.

He could not tell me if this is the reason why our bus was late but that he would look into it. He seemed to be making excuses. I questioned why the riders on the Q35 buses always seem to get the old buses especially around the rush hour. He informed me that I was wrong and that the new buses were in service in the Rockaway’s.

I would like to know were, I have been riding the Q35 for the past 7 years since moving to the Rockaway’s and not once have I gotten a new bus. We always seem to have buses that break down, no heat in the winter and no air conditioning in the summer.

If new buses are in service in the Rockaway’s, why then did I have a bus last night that had no air conditioning and a delay of 40 minutes? Apparently the individual I spoke with showed more concern for the driver making all sorts of excuses instead of taking the riders concern into matter.

Enough is enough, when will the Rockaway’s ever catch a break? Especially when it comes to the service we receive with the Q35!
