Meet The Irish by Harry McGuirk

We enjoyed listening to Mike Keller’s explanation of the convention of the AOH in Albany recently. Mike told us everyone had a wonderful time. Mike himself is now the Queens County President. Another Rockawayite, Frances O’Lady is President of the Ladies AOH. I hope Mike got our message. Margie and I were charmed with the lovely baby of Elizabeth. God bless her and her parents. Not forgetting Grandma and Grandpa, aunts and uncles and hundreds of friends. How does that song go? "You must have been a beautiful baby."

We had an unexpected bereavement within our family circle, Patrick Flood of the Inchicore area in Dublin. He left behind his wife Ester and ten children. They are all grown up, of course. Paddy Flood was in his late sixties. They have three children in the Police Force in Dublin, who love their jobs putting the hoodlums away. Part of the family is far away, in Australia.

The famous Klymore Bakeries are soon to close. A lot of people are going to lose their jobs.

In the meanwhile, sectarian violence is increasing. Over the last weekend, a young Protestant man was murdered. Gavin Brett was buried on Wednesday. A group calling themselves "The Red Hand Defenders," admitted responsibility.

The Taioseach, Mr. A-herrn and the British Prime Minister Mr. Blair have hopes the plan will bring peace.

A new plan for the north of Ireland is expected this week.
