Brooklyn Cyclones Update

The Brooklyn Cyclones maintain their first place position in the Mcnamara Division of the NY Penn League. With great pitching and timely hitting, the Cyclones raised their record to 25- 11 and lead their division by 2 games over the Staten Island Yankees.

The Cyclones went 5-2 in the past 7 games, which was highlighted by a four game sweep against Auburn over the weekend. In a 3-2 win against the Staten Island Yankees on Wednesday night, Cyclones pitcher Luc Portobanco pitched an outstanding game. Portobanco, who missed a previous start, pitched 5 innings of no-hit ball while allowing 1 run and 5 striking out 5. Portobanco went to 3-2 this year with an outstanding 1.14 ERA. First-baseman Jay Caliguiri provided the fireworks as he hit a 2 run homer to lead the offense. The Cyclones are now 3-1 against their interborough rivals from Staten Island.

Ross Peeples continues to be outstanding as his record is 5-0 with a miniscule 0.47 ERA and tied for the team league for strikeouts. Relief Pitcher David Byard leads in saves with 5 and RP Matthew Gahan, who is from Australia, is 3-0 with 4 saves. The Cyclones lead the league in team pitching in ERA, saves and strikeouts.

Catcher Brett Kay provides consistent offense with a .307 average and a team leading .520 slugging percentage. The Cyclones need more production from their hitting from players such as SS Robert Mcintyre and OF Frank Corr.

A great highlight is seeing the fans head out to Coney Island and go to Keyspan Park to see the Cyclones. On Wednesday night with a sellout record crowd of 8,017, they added to their 1st place standings in attendance and in average of fans with 7,600 a game. The Cyclones have an outstanding record at home with a 17-2 record, which also leads the league. As August looms, the Cyclones will have another set of home and away games against the SI Yankees and play more games away. This week, the Cyclones will face the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Batavia Muckdogs at home over the weekend and also at home vs. the Auburn Doubledays on Monday and Tuesday.
