Upsetting Experience

Upsetting Experience

Dear Editor,

Today, July 16, at 2:30p.m. I had a very upsetting experience. I took the wrong bus (Q21) instead of (Q22) the bus driver let me off as soon as I noticed. I crossed the street to find the bus stop back to Rockaway Beach, in doing so, I fell scraping my knee and the top of my foot. I am a heart patient and on Coumadin, so I tried to find someone to help me. Seeing someone sitting inside of a home on 12 Street or Place (I’m not sure). I explained my medical condition and asked if she could please call an ambulance. Her reply was "This is not my house so I cannot call an ambulance," in a very nasty tone. I said, "Never mind" and kept walking and found the bus stop. Waiting for what seemed like a long time, I was glad to see an older woman walking my way, I explained my medical situation again and her reply was "What do you want me to do?" I said "to please call an ambulance" her reply was "The bus will be here in 20 minutes, you do not need an ambulance, it is only a scrape. My point in writing this letter is to let others of color know that if you get hurt in Broad Channel, this could happen to you. I guess if I was shot or stabbed she would have considered this worth calling an ambulance, in the meantime, I could have bled to death.
