Bay-Gull Yanks Capture Championship

By Mary LaPorta

The Bay-Gull store Yankees defeated Tommy’s Pizza Athletics 3-1 in the BCAC Jamaica Bay Little League 2001 Rookie championship game.

Thanks to outstanding pitching by Dominick Edison and Keith Harnisher, the team stayed ahead throughout the game. Brendan Burgie was once again terrific behind the plate, while the infield held the Athletics at bay by one run.

Throughout the game there were great hits by Anthony LaPorta, James McDermott, Brandon Berrios as well as the rest of the team.

Dominick Edison made a fantastic force play at second with two out, bases loaded and the Athletics best hitter, Steve Trudden, on deck. Thanks to great fielding by Peter Willsen, Jason Edison, Timothy Vargas, Robert Vendlands and Joseph Keane the team had one great season.

The Yankees gave a grateful thanks to two wonderful coaches, Anthony LaPorta and Jay Edison, who devoted a lot of time coaching the boys.
