Keep Them Out

Keep Them Out

Dear Editor,

I just picked up the Summer Fun brochure from the Chamber of Commerce in which they talk about publicizing Rockaway on the Mainland. The Wave keeps writing about bringing tourism to Rockaway. Rockaway is one of New York City’s best kept secrets and it should remain this way.

The residents of Rockaway do not benefit from this tourism. The only people who benefit from the summer influx of the Mainlanders are the Merchants.

These Mainlanders only make an impossible parking situation even worse. They bring their garbage and leave it here. They bring their crime here. They bring their noise here. They tie up Beach 116th Street with their cars making it impossible for us residents to use Beach 116th Street. We do not need more of these Mainlanders coming here. Rockaway should be for us Rockawayites.
