Michael R. Bloomberg, Founder and CEO of Bloomberg Radio, (candidate for Mayor of New York City) is the proud sponsor of the first audio tour at the Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History. This exciting new program opens up the vast and complex wonders of the universe, galaxies, stars and planets to museum visitors. The 75-minute Audio Tour, in English and Spanish, can now be heard in French, German, Italian, Japanese and Portuguese enabling a wider range of visitors to enjoy the show.
The new entrance on Columbus Avenue and 79th Street provides a dramatic, light-filled, airy new gateway to the American Museum of Natural History. A gift of Judy and Josh Weston, it is a stunning and virtually new addition to the Museum. It is an 800 square foot high structure featuring the same water white glass that is the key component of the Rose Center’s curtain wall. A glass entryway leads the visitors across the terrazzo floor to the information desk.
Suspended 17 feet overhead is a sculpture of a galactic armillary here, a public work of art measuring 18 feet across. The sculpture weighs 3,500 pounds and is made of aluminum and stainless steel. You look at it and wonder how it remains suspended in mid-air.
There is a rising passageway that encompasses the sphere with stations of hanging stars, moons and galaxies hanging in the air with audio-cassette tapes corresponding to each station, explaining their positions in the universe and their history.
Continue on the passageway and it leads you right into the Hayden Planetarium, where you will witness an extraordinary show, that reenacts the birth of the earth with the big bang, the appearance of stars and galaxies and a ride deep into intergalactic space.
After reaching the edges of our known universe the tour takes a virtual shortcut back to earth in a free fall, headlong through a black hole. It is dramatic, exciting and mind shaking and leaves you with the sheer realistic knowledge that we are so infinitesimal, a mere speck in this vast, vast universe of ours.
Now is the time, with the kids off from school, to take them to the spectacular show at the Hayden Planetarium in the new Rose Center for Earth and Space at the American Museum of Natural History, which is so professionally narrated by Tom Hanks. It is an experience that will remain in their memory forever, and, you will be amazed at the results brought about by some of the best technicians and the utilization of skilled, accomplished actors to date. It is a marvelous show, indeed.
As you can see I had a chat with Michael Bloomberg. Mr. Bloomberg provided the sponsorship that made this audio tour possible. We enjoyed a chuckle over Donna Hanover’s prospects of returning to Gracie Mansion in the future, through him, with all her First Lady duties in tact. Mr. Bloomberg told me he didn’t think his girlfriend would be favorable to the idea. Well, there goes your big chance, Donna.
We all know people with disabilities. And, what do we do when we see them? We say thank God we are not in their position. But, there is more to it than that. If we are employers we can hire these people. They make better workers and are more dedicated.
JOB, Just One Break, held their annual award luncheon at the Hilton Towers, which is one of the sponsors of JOB. In fact, Peter Kretschmann, General Manager of Hilton, New York accepted the award for Hilton Hotels. They join an outstanding number of sponsors, such as: CBS; Colgate Palmolive Investment Bank; JP Morgan; Lifetime Television and a slew of other very prominent corporations.

Family Day in Breezy Point was a blast of a day with mass at St. Thomas More Church, activities at the Ball Field, the dedication of the Lighthouse and the biggest blast of all……….the fireworks along the Jamaica Bay in front of Kennedy’s Restaurant.
You didn’t have to be on the Bay to see them. I was just as happy to watch them from the deck way, way above the houses with my grandchildren on my knees: Erika Jeannine, who is a Yankee Doodle Dandy born on the Fourth of July will be four years old this Fourth and Michael James who just turned two years old May 21st. They are not only adorable but they’re so well behaved. They are such a pleasure. Mommy and daddy, Bettyann and son, Jimmy Matuozzi are doing a nice job.
With one thing after another, I never did get over to see "Come Blow Your Horn", which was put on by the Rockaway Theatre Group. It was a huge success. Hopefully, they will do a return engagement. There are performances every weekend and I look forward to attending them. I was thrilled to see the amount of publicity and accolades for the performance and the actors in the paper
