Breezy Point Par-Tee News

by Marion Lynch

Last week’s blistering heat and this week’s threatening forecast made some of our more cautious players stay away, but today’s golfers were blessed with really nice cooling breezes that seemed to energize many of them according to the resulting scores. Ringing the gong was Pam Armour with a 60! While Barbara Caramelli scored her second 61 of the season. Nancey Heffernan and Joan McNally both scored 63; Doris Neimeth 64; and Pat Disch 67. Terry Gearity also scored 67, paving the way for her mom, Tess Kearney, who finished up with 69. Evie McVeigh scored 70 (her lowest game this season), as did Maureen Ris and Helen McDonald. Dorothy Dunne, who runs the 50-50 club each week, scored 72, as did Barbara O’Brien. Joan Fallon, one of our newer members, scored 74, while Marge O’Leary, our hard-working treasurer, scored 76. Keeping her company were Lil Hanratty and Peggy Joyce. Tina Spina batted out a 77; Anne Lane 78; while Annette Deschler and Marge Driscoll capped off the 70’s with 79! Congratulations, gals, you must be doing something right!!

Pam Armour scored two birdies..on the 6th and the 13th holes; Barbara Caramelli had one on the 4th; Pat Disch on the 17th. Terry Gearity had two chip in birdies..on the 5th and the 15th; Doris Neimeth on the 17th; Helen McDonald the 10th; Joan Fallon the 6th; and Dorothy Dunne on the 3rd. All-in-all, despite the less-than-favorable- forecast, our golfers had some nice successes.

Meanwhile..back at the club lunch was served by our wonderful committee folk. We caught up on the recuperation of Helen Curlin, who had underwent some serious surgery and is coming along well. Mary Sullivan and Millie Donnelly are getting ready to trip the light fantastic this evening at the Parish show, and will have most of the golfing team cheering them along. Mary introduced a new "prize" starting next week…$25 will be given away each week. However, there is one stipulation…you must be present at the luncheon to be a winner! Also a reminder… Mary Kamper is still working for the theater-luncheon party for August, and Vera Lynch and Millie Donnelly are boning up on particulars for the Guys and Dolls Tournament on July 12th. Looking forward to seeing you all at the tee-off next week!
