Stan’s Pepper Steppers National Champs

On June 15 and 16, Stan’s Pepper Steppers, Rockaway’s home-grown double-dutch extraordinares, competed in the World Invitational Double Dutch Championship.

The championships (which extended to several age groups and types of competition) were held at Bowie State University in Bowie Maryland. The age groups varied from third grade to college level and the competition was broad and heated. "The competition was tough," says coach Stan Brown. The Pepper Steppers remained the nation’s premiere Double-Dutch squad winning first or second place in the competitions they entered.

The teams mainly consisted of younger kids due to Regents Examination. "We took our younger teams and accomplished what we usually accomplish with the older teams. It was great"

The coaches, chaperones and officials included Stan Brown (Head Coach and the general coordinator for the Pepper Steppers), Yatte Brown, Shawn Stainback, Katisha Simpkins, Antoinette Pizarro, Markeya Baskerville, Tiffany Taylor, Linda Brown and Triola Hall.

The Pepper Steppers included Laquasha Brown, Glennda Thompkinsm Camay Cardwell, Ruby Mejia, Jason Pizarro, Cheris Bartow, Denise Cleminds, Loleeta Dalton, Laa’neisha Jones, Monet Davis, Alaysia Woodward, Ebonie Miller, Oshanna Ashley, Crystal Gonzalez, Janell Lockett, Camilla Ensley, Cheryl Bartow, Lorraine Ramsey and Kimberly Salmond.
