Relay For Life

Relay For Life

Dear Editor;

I wish to say "Thank You" to the Wave for the coverage of our "Relay For Life" held at Beach Channel H.S., and to Principal Bernard Gassaway, who along with some of his faculty and students extended a giant hand of welcome for this worthwhile event.

I also want to thank all the wonderful teams and people who took part in this extraordinary overnight relay. There was such a terrific feeling of community coming together, plus a huge financial success. To date the figure is $65,270 and growing. Know that an event like this does not happen by itself. All the credit goes to our Chairperson, Jo Ann Shapiro, and those of us on her committee were proud to work side by side with her. Our part was made easier by her knowledge and leadership skills.

Please allow me to make some
corrections to information in your paper. The coffee in the morning was
donated by Peninsula Hospital Center. The coffee at night and hundreds of bottles of water were donated by The Beach Club. Bagels were given by Beach Bagel and the Harbor Bake Shop. All the danish and the sheet cake were donated by Waldbaums, and boxes of fresh fruit for the cancer survivors were donated by Key Food. Elegante fed everyone who came to the informational meetings and the committee meetings.  Many gifts and gift certificates were donated by so many of our wonderful business people. There was no coffee given out by Dunkin Donuts. The feedback we are getting is incredible and everyone is looking forward to next year. We have already begun planning for 2002. If you didn't make it this year, you missed out on a wonderful opportunity. Make sure you don't miss out again.
