The two photos in this week’s Historical Views provide a view of some huge and weird-looking ice formations left on the pilings of some bath houses in both the Hammels and West Arverne sections of Rockaway

As often happens during severe storms, some structures are left untouched by the ravages of King Neptune while others are not.

Could the ice have acted as a buffer against wind and wave?

The sign on the bath house says, "Please shut off the water after using.

Could somebody have forgotten?
