New Beacon Program Director

New Beacon Program Director

Dear Editor;

On Wednesday, June 12, 2001, the Rockaway Development and Revitalization (RDRC) made a decision to replace the Director of our Beacon Program at the Reverend Thomas Mason Community Center (Mason Center). This was not an easy decision nor was it made without careful deliberation.

This decision was made with the purpose of moving all of RDRC’s programs and services forward. At the end of this long and arduous process, it was felt that in order to accomplish the goals stated earlier and to move forward as an organization, a change was mandated. The most important aspect in this process is that the services provided through the Beacon Program at the Mason Center continue uninterrupted.

Ms. Jill Moore has been appointed as RDRC’s new Beacon Director. Ms. Moore brings more than 20 years of administrative experience in bank branch operations. Ms. Moore is a Rockaway resident who has lived in Far Rockaway for over 21 years.

As a parent of two (A daughter, Ashley and a son, Jason), Ms. Moore has been active in youth programs on the peninsula. She is the immediate past president of the PTA at Middle School 53 in Far Rockaway where her daughter attended.

During her tenure she was responsible for strengthening parent involvement in school curriculum and improving parent/teacher/student communication. She was an active member of the Rockaway’s branch of the Girl Scouts. In that capacity she was responsible for organizing fundraising events and planning field trips.

In closing, I want assure all children, adults, and parents who utilize the services at the Mason Center, that RDRC will continue to provide a high level of service and commitment to the community as we push ahead through this new program year. RDRC with our Beacon Program will become an even greater "beacon of hope" in our community as we continue to receive your support and guidance. I thank you for your continued support.
