Know Your Rights

Know Your Rights

Dear Editor;

There is a saying that goes; if you don't know your rights, you don't have any.  Well, when it comes to our inalienable, God-given right to self-
defense, guaranteed in the Constitution via the Second Amendment, we are in trouble.

This freedom hating cancer exists not only at the local level, but
at the national and global level as well. We have all seen the signs put up by the police offering people reward money for ratting people out for possession of "illegal handguns."  Now I don't know what that is, but I know plenty of honest, law abiding citizens who don't register their firearms because they are afraid of the tyrannical entity known as the government.

The people who know their rights are also students of history.  When it
comes to gun control, the truth is licensing and registration will ultimately lead to confiscation and governmental abuse.  Some fine examples of this policy are Adolph Hitler and Josef Stalin.

Once they disarmed the people they were free to round them up and kill them at will. So why is it that our elected officials share the same views with the two biggest mass murders of the last century?  Case and point, is the freedom-hating, elitist SenatorCharles Schumer.  His revisionist view of our rights and responsibilities is, to say the least, scary.  Here is a quote from the nemesis of freedom from, of all places, the Senate floor: "The Second Amendment is not absolute.  It does not guarantee the mythical individual right to bear arms we will hear argued for today.

The gun lobby and its friends in Congress can line up professors of history and law from here to NRA headquarters and back.  They can all swear what they think the Second Amendment means, and how many angels can dance on a pinhead.  But the settled law is flatly against them."

Twisted and convoluted reasoning like that renders not just the Second
Amendment, but the entire Bill of Rights null and void. (McCain-Feingold if passed and ratified will effectively do away with the 1st Amendment).   This flatly eludes Senator Pinhead.  Obviously our rights mean nothing to him as
well as the fact that criminals don't register their firearms they plan on
using in the commission of a crime.

Meanwhile, in 1968 the Supreme Court ruled in Haynes vs. U.S., that convicted felons are exempt from firearm registration because it violates their 5th Amendment right to non-self incrimination.  Screwed up?  You bet! The Second Amendment reads: A well regulated Militia being necessary for the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.  What that means today still must be read in context to the 18th century, and that is we the people, not the military, police, National Guard, FBI and BATF, the citizens are entitled to assemble with our own arms to train and defend ourselves.  Not dial 911 and die!  The 2nd part protects us from government infringement via licensing and registration. After all, the slavemaster's greatest fear is an armed uprising of the oppressed, and that is how the framers wanted it.

Speaking of the oppressors, let's us move from the local and national to the global level. On July 9th, the UN meets for its Conference on Small Arms. Like 1 Police Plaza and the freedom hating liberal democrats in Congress, the UN wants you disarmed so they can inflict whatever misery on us they want.  It doesn't matter to them because they can't discern a stinger from a shotgun much less a sovereign right from a bureaucratic unilateral imposition.  Yes, the same UN that voted us off the human rights council and replaced us with Nigeria.  Run by a Marxist dictator, Nigeria has one of the strictest policies on gun control, not to mention an open slave trade and human rights atrocities that would turn Dr. Mengele's stomach.

Obviously, the UN's idea of freedom does not even come close to what our founding fathers envisioned.  We need to tell these morons to pay their parking tickets and shove it. Once our rights and freedoms are gone, they are lost forever and the country
as we know it is history.  In the immortal words of one of our country's
greatest patriots, Patrick Henry, "I know not what course others may take, but as for me, give me libery or giv me death!"  For whoever else shares this view, I'm sure Senator Schumer prefers the latter.  To him and his ilk, the over 4.3 million members of the National Rifle Association and I say: "From my cold dead hand!"
