Here Comes The Hit Parade
By Chris Knott
Week 4 saw the Black Sox play the Roundballs on the open field in Riis Park. With the wind blowing out, the Roundballs knew they were going to have problems with the Black Sox and their big hitters. After a 1-2-3 top of the first, the Black Sox were ready to hit. Chris "Rock" Knott started off the inning with a walk, and the floodgates opened. Jerry Scannell got a hit, as did Eddie Humphrey. The line up kept hitting, and the runs kept scoring. After all the dust settled, the Black Sox were up 10-0.
The Black Sox relaxed a little after the first inning, and did not score many runs after that, but they did get enough to mercy the Roundballs 16-4. The last run was scored on a sacrifice fly to second base by Ed. Rock was 2 for 3 and a walk. Jerry was 3/4. Ed was 3 for 3, a sac fly and 4 RBI's. Charlie Kinzie had 3 RBI's. Dennis Cook was 1/2 and a sac fly. John Crawford was 3 for 3, as was Scooby. James Lonigro got his first hit of the season, and it was a bomb. Hitting a 2 run home run over Pistol Pete's head. George Ferguson was 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's and Juice was 1 for 1 before pulling his hamstring.
After a great speech by Knute Rockney, oh I mean Jimmy Kelly, the Black Sox wanted to start off the game with another huge inning. Rock started it off with a walk again, and the floodgates opened again. Jerry & Charlie had base hits to follow, and the Big Bopper with no hamstrings, Dennis Cook, hit a bomb past Tommy Gun and Pistol Pete, for a 3 run home run. Everyone was waiting for the Kirk Gibson imitation, but Dennis decided against it. After the 1st inning, the Black Sox were up 11-0. They mercied the Roundballs again, by the score of 13-0. Rock was 2 for 2 with a walk and 3 RBI's, and 2 runs scored. Jerry, Ed and Charlie were 1 for 3 with a run scored each, and Charlie had an RBI. Dennis was 2 for 3 with 3 RBI's and 1 run scored. Crawford was 1 for 2 and a walk with 1 run scored. Mike Hynes, who hit the ball hard all day long, was 2 for 2 with an RBI. JK was 2 for 3, with 2 RBI's and 1 run scored. James was 1 for 2 with an RBI and 2 runs scored, and Scooby was 1 for 2 with 2 RBI's and 1 run scored.
The Black Sox play on the boulevard field at 10 a.m. this Sunday, June 17. After a long discussion about a part of the body in the chest area, the two finalists are Charlie and Rock. The measuring will take place this Sunday. The winner will be announced next week.
