A Cleaner Rockaway

A Cleaner Rockaway

Dear Editor;

When we came to Rockaway three years ago we were taken back by what we saw around us. There was garbage everywhere; the dogs left their marks everywhere, on the streets, lawns, the boardwalk and the beach.

Now three years later a change has taken place. Garbage is being picked up! I see people carrying doggy bags, and they are not from the local restaurants. The boardwalks and beaches are mostly free of dogs and their droppings.

The Parks Department is to be commended for their work. Dora Pedross is doing a very good job on the beach and boardwalk.

The shrubs planted along 116 Street are a nice addition. Slowly but surely the area is awakening to it’s possibilities. Houses are being renovated and new houses are being built, this can only enhance our neighborhood.

We hope that the police, sanitation, and parks department will continue to make our area a safer and cleaner place to live and work.

This is an opportune moment for our area; election time is here, let us demand that our elected officials get things done for use. Upgrading our schools and transportation.

Yes we are happy that we came, we hope that Rockaway will continue to prosper. Let’s all pull together to make it a better place for our children and us.

MARTIN EGAN
