What happened to our Ferry service to and from Manhattan??? When I called Gateway Park they said the reason the ferry service did not start on June 1 as planned was that the City and Gateway Park are in negotiations to raise money and subsidize the fare because as it stand now it is too high. We all agree $13 each way is much too high a fare; even for tourist, especially those with children. However, we do have some innovative people in our community… such as Barbara Morris, owner of Western Real Estate on 116 St. who wrote to Gateway National Park and the City and those in authority to suggest the ferry should also be used for cargo and passengers to JFK airport .It seems to me this most certainly could bring the fare down to an affordable price for tourist as well as daily commuters from Rockaway.

Until such time you could find a better "Way to Go" by gathering a group to split the cost for limo service.

Hey! What a WAY TO GO….and" Way to Go" limos is right in Belle Harbor. I am sure you could make a good deal with them for daily commute.

While we commend Barbara Morris for her ingenuity I would like to mention how nice it was of Geraldine Chapey to obtain a grant for the Learning Center in Breezy Point where they give computer instruc-tions and tutoring for NYS Regent’s tests, and a great deal more.

The Rockaway LIVE Theatre Company at Fort Tilden opened with a big Champagne reception following the marvelous performance of Neil Simon’s hilarious play, "Come Blow Your Horn". Unfortunately I was unable to make the opening, but I do look forward to attending it in the near future. Those who did see the show had only rave reviews for the players and. Ray Shawnessy who has performed and directed shows in Breezy Point for many years in the past. It is great to have him back with us again. Of course John Gilleece who has made this LIVE theatre possible deserves an abundance of credit. The price is right, folks. Give yourself a treat and see some of these wonderful Live theatre performances right here at your doorstep at Fort Tilden every weekend throughout the summer season.

Kathryn and George Pierce are busy house decorating, not for their own home, but for the new house for their granddaughter, Daniel Pierce, daughter of Fran and Duke Pierce who will be five years old this weekend, And, grandpa George constructed this doll house for her with his own hands. What a beautiful gift. Daniel, of course, will share the fun of it with her older sister, Nicole.

Met the winner of the Indy 500, 24 year old Hilio Castroneves from San Paula, Brazil, South America at a press luncheon at Tavern on the Green. He was only 12 years old when he became fascinated by speed cars and it took him another 12 years to train for the biggest world event in speed car racing. He was so elated when he won, he climbed the barbed wire fence to show his joy. What a thrill that must be, especially at his age.
