End Parking Restrictions For Parade

End Parking Restrictions For Parade

Dear Editor:

On the morning of the Memorial Day Parade, in the spirit of this solemn day, video camera with fully charged batteries, I’m ready to join the ranks of my Rockaway neighbors lining the route of the parade.

As an American who appreciates the sacrifices of our fallen heroes, the least I can do is honor their memory by attending the Memorial Day Parade. Since I’m no youngster, and plagued with arthritis, I’m unable to walk much at all. I will venture to say that there are many in the same situation.

I drove in the direction of 129 Street, searching for a place to park the car, someplace not further than one block off the parade route. Everywhere I looked the signs posted told me that due to restrictions of no parking on weekends between May 15 and September 30 I cannot park.

I was disappointed in the short-sight of the parade organizers for not seeking a relaxation of the "No Parking" rules for the day, or at least for the few hours of the parade.

Since the Memorial Day Parade is a yearly occurrence, I would suggest that when planning, to please take this into consideration.
