Chatting With Chapey

On Thursday, May 24, we attended the 12th annual fundraiser dinner at
Russo's on the Bay for Heartshare First Step.

Carol Verdi, the Director of Early Childhood Services for Heartshare was the Mistress of Ceremonies for the event.  Carol introduced a video made for the dinner featuring the children who attend the program. Heartshare provides services for children with and without special needs. It sponsors a universal pre-K attended by community children who are four years of age or older where the children receive education and recreation.  Featured in the video was Joanne Russo, the senior evaluation co-ordinator and Michelle Gross, the evaluation co-ordinator.  They highlighted the many activities and programs that help children develop to their highest potential.

Carol Verdi is a dedicated professional who cares for each child. Through her effervescent personality and charisma she reaches out to each
family that comes to her.  It is reassuring to know that a person with Carol's talent, expertise and pizzazz is willing to dedicate her life to helping our children.  Carol's dedication is reaffirmed by the fact that parents whose children have graduated from Heartshare continue to come back to support the fund raiser dinner because of the excellent caring program run by Carol Verdi.

We were particularly fortunate at the dinner to have been seated with Andrew and Pamela Bauman.  Both Andrew and Pamela are committed to helping children with autism. Andrew is the President of New York Families for Autistic Children.  The Bauman's are strong advocates for children.  They are constantly focused on finding the best educational setting for each individual child.  In addition to being strong proponents for children, they are very interesting to spend time with.

A special thank you to the Lefferts/Liberty Kiwanis Club for its continuing strong support of Heartshare. The Kiwanis Club presented Carol Verdi with a check which will be used to help Heartshare obtain an elevator at their Matilda Raffa Cuomo Center. Carol expressed heartfelt appreciation to the men and women of the Kiwanis who raised money for this project.  If you would like to donate to this important endeavor, please call Carol Verdi at 718-323-2877.

Thanks also go to Dolly and Frank Russo for their generous support of Heartshare.  They have contributed significantly to providing services for
our children.

Best wishes to Carol Verdi and Heartshare as they continue to provide quality services to children and families.
