Beach Volleyball Starts

Opening Day is here! The RBVBL season will get underway on Wednesday, May 23 at Riis Park. Nets will be available at 6:00 p.m. for setup and games will commence at 6:30 p.m. Additionally, some very important administrative items will be taken care of with team captains. Uniforms, division assignments, team schedules and weekly party details will all be given out. Team captains should bring their completed roster sheets, including player signatures.

Thanks goes to all the captains and volunteers who have made this day possible. Your punctual attendance at meetings and general assistance has been instrumental in the smooth handling of the many details involved in running the league. It will all be worth the work soon because it is now time to PLAY VOLLEYBALL!

Twenty-four teams have been formed into 3 divisions of play, ranging from novice players (like John Sica) to advanced players (like Rocky Abbracciamento). All levels of competition will find themselves in some terrific matches from week to week. Anybody still looking to join a team should see Patty Moule on Wednesday. Although teams have already been formed there are sometimes last minute openings for individuals.

There is no party scheduled at any of the sponsor bars or restaurants on opening night. Feel free to bring a beach chair and a cooler with a sandwich and a cold beverage, or two. The first party of the season will be held right at the beach after the games are finished. Maybe, if we're lucky, Rocky will give us a demonstration of the technique he uses in his patented Reverse Flipper Spike. This shot is not even attempted by professional players and can only be seen at Riis Park.

We'll see you on May 23.
